Tax season. Two words that can strike fear into the heart of any US expat. If you hold American citizenship, you have to file your taxes. It doesn’t matter whether you don’t live in the US, have never lived in the US, never plan on living in the US, or even if you have dual citizenship… you still technically need to file.

Importantly, this does not mean you need to pay them. But it’s complicated, confusing, and frankly, a pain. The filing requirement alone (and eventually, the implications on taxes) is one of the reasons people renounce their US citizenship.

But I digress. There are loads of free resources online to help file expat taxes, especially on the IRS website. As for me, I prefer to throw my money at the problem and have someone help me do them, as it is something I despise and I find the forms quite overwhelming.

Enter MyExpatTaxes. This is who I personally use to file my US taxes and get tax planning advice during years when I’m on the road more. After four or so years with them, I’m genuinely really happy with them. In my opinion, they make the process more manageable with intuitive software, I find their costs fair (between €150 and €500 for most levels), and they’re pretty responsive when you have questions. Perhaps as expected, they do take longer to respond around tax filing deadlines.

In case you want to try them out for the first time, I have two discounts available as part of their referral program: a link that gets you 20% off and a link/code that gets you 10% off.

MyExpatTaxes Discount Code for New Clients

Please note that these are for new clients only. If you are a repeat customer, you get a certain amount of credits off repeat returns. I also recommend subscribing to their newsletter for occasional discount codes and links that can be used for existing customers. I’m thinking I may start gathering them and popping them at the bottom as I get loads of people asking for them.

Now I use the word code a lot because that’s what people ask me for, but the discount is really available a link. You can either click below, or I can send you an invite from the app. Please remember these are for new clients only – see note above for repeat clients.
